Product description
The best-known and oldest modern abbey beer goes back to the origins of the Norbertine Abbey. Located on a tributary of the Meuse in Dinant, brewing was carried out there until the Napoleonic era. From 1952 the brewing activity was revived under license from regional breweries. This original dark brown Leffe variant is considered to be the original from the pre-industrial era, when all types of malt were still kilned directly over fire and thus only resulted in dark beer. The higher alcohol content is, however, a more recent, typically Belgian post-war phenomenon. The word Brune (brown) is also named Bruin in the Dutch part of Belgium.
Clear and autumn brown-mahogany with a deep red shimmer in the color and with a beige foam, this dark Belgian abbey beer has a fruity scent of candied plum with caramelized roasted malt aromas. Notes of coffee, toffee and a pinch of vanilla are also noticeable on the nose. At first sweet after brown caramelized sugar, baked apple, red fruits and back banana, this beer then adds aromas of chocolate and vanilla sugar. This sweet force is kept in check by a hoppy bitter note in the dry finish.
Leffe Brune is a perfect balance between a discreetly bitter yet slightly caramelized taste. It is ideally paired with aperitif snacks or cheese and goes perfectly with spicy, caramelized or sweet and sour dishes.
