Laphroaig Select is aged in a combination of Oloroso sherry butts, American white oak (we suspect some of this is virgin oak), hogsheads seasoned with Pedro Ximenez, quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks. This results in a restrained and toned-down version of this Islay classic. On the nose it is creamy and sweet, of vanilla and heather honey, with a little smoke and an idea of peat. In the palate it is nice, slightly earthy base, again honey-sweet and creamy, this time with a hint of salt. Multifaceted, with a finely adjusted balance between sweetness and peat finish.

Laphroaig Select carefully draws whisky matured the historic way in Oloroso sherry butts, Pedro Ximinez seasoned hogsheads, and first-fill bourbon quarter casks to create this distinctive blend. The heart is drawn from a final maturation in new, American oak — a rarity in Scotch whisky production — which adds bold flavor.
